THE ROCFISH TELEPHONE INTERVIEW
Rocfish manages the recruitment process on behalf of a number of companies. If you have made an application to one of them (either directly or via an agency) and your experience looks well suited to the post, you will be asked to undertake a telephone interview with Rocfish.

This is the first stage in the selection process. It is your opportunity to discuss the role in detail, before making the decision to attend face-to-face interview. It is also our chance to establish if you are the highly skilled and capable person all our clients expect us to provide them with.
The interview format
We work on the premise that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. Rather than general questions about your career history, the interviewer will ask you to talk in greater depth about projects or tasks, which best show your strengths in the area he/she is focusing on. So typical questions would start...

"Please give me an example when..."
"Please tell me about the project which best illustrates your ability to..."

We will be interested in the outcomes, what unexpected problems you encountered and how you overcame them, whether there was anything you learned from the experience. The focus is very much on what you, rather than your team achieve.

Appropriate preparation for the Interview
Rocfish prepares a full job description for each of the roles we release. Typically this is an A4 sheet of information, accompanied by two or more pages about the recruiting company. This is critical pre-interview reading, if you have not received it, please let Rocfish (or your agent) know and we will ensure it is despatched to you. You should also:

Look at the recruiting company's website and familiarise yourself with the organisation you are applying to.

Consider the job description you have been provided with as the interviewer will ask questions related to the skills required and the responsibilities of the role. Think about what you have achieved and how you will illustrate your abilities in the desired areas.

Give some thought to why the company appeals to you and any questions about the opportunity you would like Rocfish to address.
